ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are approaching the victorious Independent candidates for the election of the senate Chairman seat.
In the elections, there is a total of 104 members. PML-N has 33 Senators, PTI has got 12 and PPP 20. There are 15 Independent senators. 5 candidates from MQM, Pk-MAP and NP each, four of JUI-F, 2 of JI and one candidate from PML-F, ANP and Balochistan National Party-Mengal each, are also going to be voting in this election.
To win the seat of Chairman and Deputy Chairman, candidates would need 53 votes in the Upper House of the parliament.
Independent senator from FATA, Mirza Afridi joined PML-N in a meeting headed by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday. The leaders of the party are trying to get support of 7 senators from Balochistan, out of which 6 belong to their allies and one is Independent.
PML-N also approached Pk-MAP, NP and JUI for support.
Meanwhile, PPP and PTI have expressed their support for the idea to elect the Senate chairman from Balochistan this time around.
